Concert: Musick Suppress'd / Musick Restored
Saturday 30 May
19:00 - 21:00
St. Clement Danes, The Strand
London, WC2R 1DH
We celebrate 450 years since the birth of Christopher Gibbons, son of Orlando Gibbons, who was responsible for the nurturing of several great Restoration composers, most significantly Henry Purcell. This concert is the modern premiere of the Gibbons work The 'Oxford Act', unperformed since he presented it 362 years ago.

Performing the Funeral Music of Queen Mary alongside Gibbons represents the triumph of the elaborate polyphonic style against the backdrop of a resurgence of Puritanism under William and Mary.

Ultimately this is the story of the survival of England’s choral tradition and musical identity.
